Lindsey Asks: When do you send a post destination wedding invite?

We are having a destination wedding, inviting only close family and friends. We are having an at home reception a month after our wedding and I was wondering when we should send the invitation to the at home reception and appropriate wording.

    Hi Lindsey!
Good question. I would send the invitations 6-8 weeks before the reception. I think it is polite to give your potential guests ample time to make any needed arrangements and to clear their calendars.

For the wording, if it is a somewhat casual affair, just be honest in a fun and creative way. For example, “We are flying off to ___ to get married but we want to celebrate with you when we return! Please join us for our hometown wedding reception on….”. Or, if it is a more formal event, you could just say, “The pleasure of your company is requested at the Celebratory Marriage Reception of [your names here].” In truth, there really isn’t a right or wrong way, just go with something that gets the point across and fits the style of you and your event.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Lindsey, I totally agree with Rachael, giving sufficient time for invites is only the right etiquette. Best wishes, F
