Flights of Fancy

Bridal hair with an accent of soft natural feathers can add an air of haute couture or hint of whimsy to any Bride on her Big Day.
There are many ways to add feathers to your crowning glory always keeping in mind “less is more” (Sorry Carrie Bradshaw, I’m talking to you…) Feathers can be overwhelming if combined with too many other elements or if the hairpiece is too large for your look. Keeping it simple allows your accessory to be just that- an accessory.
The ways in which you have to use feathers in limitless. A single flower made of feathers or a small spray of 3-4 will highlight your hair without making your hairpiece the focus. Casual or themed weddings allow you a little freedom to choose a more whimsical piece- with a Flapper Style wedding ensemble feathered hairpieces are pretty much standard fare. Some cultural traditions call for elaborate feathered hair accessories that are part of the ceremonial dress. Feathers combined with small crystals or rhinestones, will add sparkle and depending on the bird can add a beautiful burst of color especially in dark hair. Many women choose a feathered hairpiece to accent their veil – commonly seen with Bird Cage Veils aptly enough
, or use it in place of a veil
altogether. Feathered clips and combs are a lovely addition to any Spring wedding look.
Consulting with you hair stylist is a great way to help you choose the correct accessory for your Bridal Hair Style. The shape of the hairpiece does play a role in deciding your special “do” and optimum placement may take a while to decide. Because shapes vary so much there is not a hard fast rule on placement that I can share with you – it is simply trial and error till you find the sweet spot for you.
Have fun choosing any of your accessories, and remember that this day is about you, and how you want to present yourself on your wonderful wedding day. Do share a pic or two of how you choose to incorporate feathers – I’d love to see! ~ Jacki Norrie

Hair accessories have come such a long way- the traditional veil is making room for hair broaches, feathers, fascinators and amazing head bands. I think the most important thing to remember is – it’s an accessory meant bring out the beauty of the dress and the bride
