WA: What is the name of your business?
Katie: Elegance & Simplicity, Inc. and Eco-Beautiful Weddings
WA: How many years have you been involved in the wedding industry?
Katie: 13 years
WA: Why did you decide to go into the Wedding Planning business?
Katie: I am a very detailed oriented person with a degree in accounting. I love making sure that all the pieces fit – but did not want to sit behind a desk my whole life!
WA: What are some tips you can give brides planning their weddings?
Katie: First and foremost – know that you will be spending an average of 40 hours a week planning your wedding! Yes – that is a whole other full-time job! So – If you have the time, great! If you don’t – hiring a planner to help either the “day of” or throughout the process will be invaluable to your sanity! Be sure to ask your fiancé for input and don’t be afraid to ask for help from your attendants!
WA: What is one of your favorite trends in weddings right now?
Katie: I have a few favorites – but right now my favorite is not having a wedding cake and having other desserts like pies and dessert bars.
I am also a huge fan of the colored bridal gown! You don’t have to wear white or ivory on your wedding day!
WA: What is one of the most unique requests you have had from a bride?
Katie: The most unique was probably our most recent wedding when the bride asked us to make part of her reception feel like her classroom (she is a teacher). We found school lockers and painted them in the colors of her wedding and used a pull down map and place pins where the bride and groom have traveled! We have unique requests all the time – in fact I ask and crave for it! I love making weddings look like the individuals themselves! So when people walk in the room they say “ Wow – this is just like them!”
WA: How do you spend your time outside of work?
Katie: I love to read, Bikram Yoga and spend time hanging out with my husband and son doing anything they like! My husband and I also love to travel and we go often go to the Dominican Republic (where he is from and where we have a satellite office).
WA: What is the one thing you can’t wait to share with the readers of WeddingAces?
Katie: I can’t wait to share tips and trends for green weddings! Making weddings sustainable, gorgeous and inspiring is what I love to do!
