Wedding Flowers-Loose, Airy, and Wispy

Something happened at the beginning of last year and everything trended away from clean stark lines. The something was the vintage inspired wedding. We moved to antique vessels and loose and airy flowers. The flowers from this photo shoot at the Athenaeum are a perfect example of what is hot right now. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a ton of brides who like contemporary, or clean lines, but the girls who want vintage looking flowers want filler flowers. They want designs that are wispy, airy, and loose. LOOSE is the key word.
These bouquets were created with seeded eucalyptus, berries, pods, and interesting foliage, these elements loosen up the designs. The filler elements added to a traditional clean ball, knock the shape out and give the designs that old world charm. This is also what brides mean when they say they want “Garden Flowers”, or ” I just picked them from the garden flowers” it means they want designs that are loose and airy.
I guess you could also say, it is a less formal approach to floral design.
These pictures are of the flowers waiting on the stairs just before we started the shoot. I love how pretty they look just sitting around waiting to go to the party.
Our model was Nole the editor of the “Oh So Beautiful Paper” blog. Nole and her husband helped us by modeling for this wedding inspiration.
We used local dahlias, combo roses, privet berry, seeded euc, white freesia, white gooseneck loosestrife, ranunculus, scented geranium foliages, magnolia and green dianthus to bring this design together. The arrangement was presented on a white cake plaste.
The look of the event was styled by Maria Cooke of Ritzy Bee Events and the amazing photographs were taken by Kate Headley Photography. Design Cusine partnered in on the styling and the rentals.
Simplicity is key, when designing an event that looks like this one.
We used moss, twig, and vine, to make the boutonniere unique.
We also created this very soft and lovely wreath for the gate. Do you see the soft and wispy elements?
I hope you find lots of inspiration in these very loose and airy flower designs. If you want vintage, if you want garden flowers, you want designs that are loose, airy, and wispy.
