We have had the pleasure of meeting with couples that whip out the old “What to ask your photographer” lists found on line. But what we find time and time again is that 90% of the time, the couple will ask the lists questions, but not know the answers. Seems a little pointless to bring the list along if you don’t know what the answers should be. Well, we are here to help. For the next several posts, we will ask the questions and give the answers you’ll want to hear!  Check out the first question here.

Question # 2

Do You Provide Proofs?

First let’s start with defining proofs. Each photographer is different, but we will use our studio for an example. We shoot around 3000+ images at a 10 hour wedding. These will be “proofed” down to about 800+ images. Why you may wonder? Well Aunt Sally’s eyes were closed in the family shot or Dad walk through the shot in this one. As well as, a photographer will take several images of the “important moments” and will then look closely at which are the best to keep. It is overwhelming for a couple to look at 10 images of the same shot, that’s why we do the work for you. So proofs are the images that were taken at your wedding that have had “the not so flattering” ones filtered out.

The next part of this question, is does the photographer provide the proofs. Some photographers will provide printed proofs (usually 4×6 proofs). Other photographers will provide a disc with the images for your computer and some others will provide the proofs online for your viewing.  But do know that proofs are not touched up photos; they come straight out of the camera. This is a misunderstood fact for many brides and grooms.

Answer

Proofs are filtered down images taken on the day of the wedding that are not edited. Photographers usually offer them as printed 4×6’s, on a disc for your computer, or online for your viewing.
