Garden Wedding Splendor

Classic garden weddings are known for their pure romance, lushness, and touch of dreamy whimsy. For this late afternoon wedding at The Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga, CA, we focused on ivory and light green for the colors and used lots and lots of hanging green amaranthus.

The reception flowers were held in vintage and weathered looking rustic cement containers. The flowers were allowed to arrange themselves in a loose, natural, and almost wild manner. The containers were filled with ivory hydrangea, lisianthus, ranunculus, queen anne’s lace, cabbage, china berry, seeded eucalyptus, and hanging green amaranthus.

The bride wanted to incorporate gold ostrich feather plumes, so for the ceremony gazebo, we made a tall arrangement filled with ostrich plumes. The feathers were accented with tall curly willow branches and white delphinium stems were attached to the curly willow branches. The gazebo was framed in an arch-like shape with more curly willow branches, seeded eucalyptus, queen anne’s lace, lisianthus, and dripping with lots and lots of hanging green amaranthus.

The boutonnieres were non-floral and featured ostrich feathers and seeded eucalyptus.

We decorated the fountain with more hanging amaranthus, hydrangea, lisanthus, delphinium, ranunculus, as well as tulips and creamy garden roses. Hanging amaranthus can evoke images of very traditional, classic floral arrangements in a more baroque style. However, when used in a garden setting almost exclusively, you no longer envision period pieces from the 17th century, but rather romance, mystery, and whimsy!
