Spring 2010 Recap: Past Meets Present

We’ve shown you all the gowns and designers we saw at Spring 2010 bridal market, and I am sure your heads are spinning. At least mine is!  After seeing so many gorgeous dresses (and getting a little sleep), the season’s trends started to emerge.  Flowers, asymmetrical necklines, tulle, tiers, and lush draping were all present in each collection.  Last, but not least, the ball gown was in full effect! Even leaner shapes were shown with an echo of fullness through tulle overlays and additional details.  Romantic, whimsical gowns with references to the past were in each collection, as well as a renewed emphasis on a woman’s shape.  Fitted bodices paired with voluminous skirts, graceful ruffles, and necklines all enhance and highlight a woman’s shape, creating balance with proportion.

Flowers, or details inspired by blooms, were some of my favorite embellishments.

Modern asymmetrical necklines were softened with draping, flowers or other design elements, creating an aura of sophisticated femininity.

Full ball gowns adorned with lush draping, tiers, and flowers made dramatic entrances.

Tulle – frothy, dreamy, and updated (either a lot or a little) floated down each runway.

Ruffles and tiers, loose and flowing or densely gathered, were design elements that added to the movement and grace of many gowns.

Overall, the Spring 2010 collections were filled with exuberant, delightful, and feminine gowns that left me feeling uplifted as well as inspired by the references to eras past.   I often thought of Marie Antoinette as each dress marched down the runway, and with her varied style appearing to influence design, brides-to-be will have a lot to choose from!

Ahhhh! Amour…amour. What can possibly be better than a marriage of the past and present!
