Every Six Months: Check Those Prongs!

Every six months or so, it’s a good idea to take your ring back to your jeweler and have them check the integrity of the prongs. Remember, the diamond is much harder than the metal. Regular wear and tear can damage, bend, or warp the prongs, and thus sacrifice the safety of your diamond. Typically, you’ll find that a diamond will become loose before it will fall out. But don’t wait for that to happen!

Some designers, like Tacori, Ritani, or Verragio, will insist that any repair work be done ONLY by them or an authorized dealer of that brand. So if your jewelry store asks for $80 to fix your ring, don’t think you’re being clever by going across the street and paying $60. You might end up invalidating your warranty with the ring designer.
