WeddingAces: What is the name of your business?
Kristen and Melissa:
The Green Kangaroo, Inc

WA: How many years have you been involved in the wedding industry?
K & M: 7 years

WA: Why did you decide on an online wedding invitation boutique?
K & M: To reach out to brides nationwide, and provide them with the ease and convenience of online shopping, combined with the level of personalization and unique choices of a professional custom stationer.

WA: What are some tips you can give brides planning their weddings?
K&M: Three things – 1. Research it. Be sure to take advantage of the knowledge base available online and research the legitimacy and professionalism of each of your vendors. 2. Ask for it, even if you don’t see it … many vendors offer services and products that are not readily marketed. 3. Enjoy it! Don’t lose focus on the true intention of your wedding and try not to sweat the small stuff.

WA: What is one of your favorite trends in weddings right now?
K & M: We love all the bold color combinations we’re seeing right now… pairing colors like pink and orange, aqua and lime, black and bright green! We are completely in love with all the creative table displays for place cards, and all the vinyl decaling that is going on – these are 2 unique ideas that can add to a cohesive theme for a wedding. From the stationery, to the cake, aisle runners, favors, and more – your guests appreciate a celebration that is well thought out! And finally – more of a business trend…We are excited about the trend in the wedding industry to offer more value-added products. In this economy, finding creative ways to work with brides on a lower budget is a great way to expand your market, without devaluing the products or services offered by haggling for lower prices.

WA: What is one of the most unique requests you have had from a bride?
K & M: Our most unique request to date was from a bride who was a true pioneer! She was an East Coast girl, in love with the wild west. She asked us to create a couture invitation fit for her wilderness wedding, inspired by her favorite leather boots! Her invitation was a tea-stained fine Italian parchment upholstered onto camel-colored Italian leather, and marked with a branded buffalo. We then wrapped the invitation in a dark chocolate lamb-skinned suede, and wrapped it altogether with strands of tumbled turquoise. This invitation is practically famous.

WA: How do you spend your time outside of work?
K & M: We work A LOT. We each have a daughter. Outside of attending functions and events with our wedding colleagues, we live for spending time with our respective families. Kristen enjoys yoga, food/wine pairings, and has an unusual appreciation for Mexican food.  Melissa loves to read, working in her garden, and traveling to places new and old.

WA: Why did you want to be a WeddingAce?
K & M: For a long time, we have wanted to broadcast our recommendations, advice, and experiences to a broader audience. Our Design Studio is full of valuable chatter, so why not share it with everyone else?
