Since the college football season is officially in full-swing (YAY!) I thought this was the perfect time to talk about how to incorporate your undying love for your team or alma mater into your wedding day details. I’m sure this one will make the guys incredibly ecstatic, but girls have hearts of scarlet and grey or purple and gold, too!! It truly is simple to incorporate your favorite team into your big day, but the trick is not to go overboard making your nod to said school look cheesy. So I recommend incorporating one or two touches and not each and every single idea!
The obvious way to incorporate your favorite college football team is with the groom’s cake. The groom’s cake, originally a southern tradition, is becoming a regular fixture in today’s weddings throughout the country. Frequently you see a jersey, a helmet or even a full-blown stadium recreation! I absolutely love this LSU stadium groom’s cake!

Other simple ways to add a personal touch to your day are NCAA logo shot glasses as favors, fun football themed cake toppers, a football with the colors and insignia of your team as a guest book or having your ceremony or reception on campus! You could also bring your theme into your bridal party gifts with college team cufflinks or alma mater koozies for your groomsmen. Garters by Kristi even offers a college sports bridal package complete with keepsake garter, tossing garter and undies! You could even be introduced at the reception with your school’s fight song in background. And if you’re an Ohio State fan like I am, there’s no better idea than having a “Buckeye Bar” at your dessert table!
