TIP OF THE WEEK: Honeymoon Savings!

Fresh from my vacation in Virginia Beach, I had to talk about my travels and how a local honeymoon could mean great savings without any sacrifice.
When I ask most couples about their honeymoon and where they are going, most respond, “somewhere tropical”.
Destinations for honeymoons have become incredible and exotic, with locations such as Hawaii (In US but 11+ hour flight from east Coast and 6+ hours from West Coast), New Zealand, Australia, Jamaica, Aruba and many other tropical locations around the world however, if you are looking for great beaches, palm trees, sun, surf and tropical relaxation think local.
Spending a week in Virginia Beach, was a great reminder of the many local destinations thought out the US, which offer the same thing as many tropic destinations and even more, often for less.
Virginia Beach offers, gold, sport fishing, palm trees, golden sand beaches, water sports, evening dinner cruises, shopping, and incredible restaurants. From New Jersey, the drive to Virginia is just about 7 hours, and I did not have to sit for 12 hours on a plane to find palm trees and the tropical beauty offered by resorts outside the US.
So, when your planning your honeymoon consider the many things you can do within driving distance or even within the United States. When I lived in Los Angeles I rarely went on ‘tropical’ vacations for just that reason. Too many great beaches within driving distance. I’ve been to Hawaii and Australia and Mexico, but some (not all) of the beaches between Santa Monica and San Diego are just as beautiful for a fraction of the cost of most distant trips. Same weather as Hawaii and less humid than Australia, Mexico, Caribbean or Florida.

With the exeption of Australia, I have also traveled to many tropical locations and found the San Diego beaches amung the best I have ever seen and visited.
Thank you for your feedback. Do you have any advice on how couples from teh East Coast can travel to the West Coast on a budget?
