My 2 best friends and I were really into fitness. They got so into it that they decided to enter a body building competition. Being the coward that i was, i told them that i wasn’t going to participate in the contest. They decided I was going to be their Official Makeup artist/Stylist,
(I was the most fashion forward and I used to work at a makeup counter years ago, so this was now my “duty.”
I began my research on how they should look. The most prominent characteristic that I found was that most bodybuilders are supposed to look super bronzey-ish tan, apparently to emphasize tone and muscle. The tanning bed wasn’t an option because I thought it would take too much time to get that “rich” tan look so instead i bought them self tanner. It was the “accelerated” kind to achieve maximum tan w/ less time. The next morning (competition time) they showed up at my house looking like a pair of ROTTEN ORANGES! I didn’t know how this tanning lotion made them both look exactly the same color (one of them was a fair-skinned Polish girl and the other was a darker olive-skinned girl from Brazil!)
There was absolutely nothing that would erase or lighten this VOMIT like color on their skin. I did the only thing that could be done at this point, pack on as much makeup as i could and give them my undying, lifelong servitude! They,of course, didn’t win this competition, but still participate in many others w/o letting me offer anymore of my “expertise.” I Beg you to let me win this “fix all” machine so that i can somehow redeem myself!
Please consider me!

Oh where do i begin when saying that I have had more than horrible experiences with tanning. Just last week I was doing a video shoot for www.whiteflash.com, a diamond company. The theme was summer wear with diamonds...meaning i had to get tan asap. I got a spray tan which turned all my fingers and feet orange. for most people it wouldn't be a big deal but considering i had to wear rings, their new toe ring and ankle bracelet collection, it was bad. They had to photo shop everything and it ended up okay. Moral of the story... I need this airbrush system!! Not only do i want it but i NEED something like this, which i didn't even know existed. Very cool idea.. and i will defiantly be spreading the word.

I am always apprehensive about spray tans but i am QUITE open to them. I think it is always good to try something new. I think they would would great to fix tan lines that were already made by natural tanning ..

Well although I live in Texas and everyone is REALLY tan here I decided to get an airbrush tan done a day before my best friends wedding. Needless to say I was in the wedding party and all of the wedding and reception pictures. What I did not notice was that I had tan lines going down the back of my legs that made me look like I had old lady spider veins (by the way I am 23). No one said anything until after the reception was over and now every time I look at the pictures I remember my spider legs tan incident. I have yet to have gone spray tanning since this incident earlier this year. I am waiting for a better "spray tan" type system because I am in desperate need of a tan!

<abbr><em>From Ashley’s own blog: <a href="http://whiteflashdiamonds.wordpress.com/2009/06/30/a-princess-wedding-for-kendra-wilkinson-at-playboy-mansion/" rel="nofollow">A ‘princess’ wedding for Kendra Wilkinson at Playboy Mansion</a></abbr></em>

Like Jenny, even if I try and get natural sunlight I don't tan well. How is that possible! Last summer I tried a spray booth and I was told streaks were almost impossible. Yeah, well, they are possible for me! I looked like a mess and had to give my skin a good scrub down for the next several days to rid the evidence. The natural sunlight will tan my calves, but my thighs, nope. Why? It's embarrassing and I hate to show my legs in public if they aren't looking beautiful with some color (so white!) so I never wear shorts or skirts. Jeans in the summer, not fun. People tell me I over think it and it's not bad. They are also the tan ones! If I'm not comfortable then it's not gonna happen. Pants are it for me unless I find other methods to help me.

I am super pale and I have freckles all over from getting burned so bad so many times. I've tried the booths, the lotions, but you can always count on something going wrong. I've been an unnatural brown, orange, yellow, and streaked from all the creams and booths. I even manage to get splotchy when I tan for real. Maybe I'm not very good at putting on sunscreen and maybe I don't pay enough attention to which way the sun is facing, but if I try to tan, I'll end up with the right side of my legs white and the left side will be red. I've nearly conceded to the fact that a nice tan is not quite in the cards for me. Hopefully this will change my mind!

The last time I tried self tanning, I was sitting in a doctor's office and the doctor started examining my hands, because he thought there was something wrong with me. They were yellow from the self tanner. I was mortified!

This sounds so much better than the self tanner cream. I hope I win!

The ONE time I tried using a tanning bed was when I let someone convince me that I needed a base tan before heading down south for vacay - so that I wouldn't get a sunburn, right?! WELL....the burn I got from the tanning bed was far worse than any sunburn I've ever had and I will neeeever do that again!

I am a HUGE fan of the spray tan. Growing up as a beach bunny in Florida I lived in the beach and now that I’m older and wiser I use spray tans to keep my glow and save my skin. I’d love to try a do it at home system. My funniest spray experience by far was this summer while in Paris. My sister in law and I decided we needed a faux glow for our weekend in Paris. Just trying to get someone to understand what we were speaking about was challenge enough, then the experience of learning how to operate the booth with someone who spoke ZERO English was the most hysterical thing I have ever seen, we were dripping in faux tan by the end and the lady swore our brown streaks would fade into a glorious tan which they did NOT. I think I will keep my spray tanning stateside from here on out and hope to try this product soon!

Well, I'm Asian and in the winter, I get super light yellow colored. In fact, on more than one occasion, I've been compared to a baby with jaundice. So, one winter I decided to try some self-tanner.

I bought a box, brought it home, and forgot about it for about a week until I saw my dog chewing at the package. I looked down and the gloves were completely chewed up! I figured I should just go ahead and use it anyway, so I strapped plastic baggies onto my hands and went at it. What an awful result! The baggies made the application super uneven and the color of the self tanner made me look like a splotchy Oompa Loompa instead of a bronzed look the package promised.

It was quite the embarrassing two weeks or so until it started to wear off. I've never tried self tanner again! But, now that I'm getting married next spring, I don't want to be a jaundice girl walking down the aisle!

Just one horror story? Ha, I guess I'll have to narrow it down.

Last year, I went spray tanning before heading to a friend's wedding and had a terrible experience. It wasn't quite like Ross from Friends, but it was enough to scare me away from any more spray tanning sessions! I went into the booth and, because the jets are so loud and the noise caught me off guard, inhaled quite a bit of the spray, which gave me a really bad headache for the next 6 hours. To top things off, my arms and hands came out seriously splotchy, so much that a friend jokingly called me "alien hands" at the wedding. What's even worse is that you could see the marks on my hands in all the photos too. :(

Fun times!
