“You can always buy more later!”

“You can always buy more later you just can’t less,” is the advice I give most couples. As I meet with eager brides and grooms planning their wedding, it seems that many are unsure of what they want. Whether it is the type of album or a parent gift, there are now more options than ever, and the decisions are even harder.
If you are not sure of what you want, that purchase only what you need. If you want a specific item but are not sure about it, ask your vendor to put it in your contract at a guaranteed price, assuring yourself, that you can still have what you want but you will not need to make a purchase immediately.
Most vendors are pretty flexible and would accommodate your request.
Many of the couples we work with purchase professional photography and video coverage and decide on the particulars after their wedding.
Once your wedding is over you can have more time to determine the exact album, prints or parent gifts you may want to purchase.
This technique will help you budget your wedding better and allow you to spend as you go and not get yourself in a heap of debt.

While I totally understand this in regards to controlling your budget, I have found time and again that if couples put off pre-planning their buying intentions (ie. We like that 40 page album, and would like one just like it) – After their wedding, they often never get around to taking the time to produce the album with their photographers. And that’s just sad
I’d also suggest that by pre-purchasing their product they will be able to negotiate a bigger saving. For example, we give a 25% discount on albums that people buy before their wedding. For some weddings, where they need 3 or 4 albums, we even put in an extra photographer to increase their coverage.
Perhaps that’s a counter point worth considering?

Dave,
You make some very good points.
We have had many brides fall out of wedding fever and however, what our studio does is guarantee a negotiated price for any couple to exercise for up to 12 months after their wedding.
This way couples have the flexibility of getting their albums later and do not have to worry about the price, since it has already been negotiated and fixed for them.
