We have an upcoming wedding with 20 honorary bridesmaids. This topic peaked my interest into the origins of this practice. The trend emerged with former President Bush’s daughter, Jenna’s Texas wedding in 2008. But, I really believe this trend started much earlier in history.
So, what is an honorary bridesmaid? They are quasi-bridesmaids, who have no official duties. If a wedding party numbers are limited, a bride may include honorary bridesmaids as a way to include additional members.
Is there a magic number for Honorary Bridesmaids? Normally, honorary bridesmaids numbers are fairly large: 10 – 25.
What is the procession order of honorary bridesmaids seated? They are usually the first people to march down the aisle (then seated) before the grandparents and parents.
