In the seventeen years I have been designing wedding flowers I have had only a few weddings that were based on the color palette yellow. It seems yellow is often used as a accent color for fall weddings and little else. I will even go so far as to say, I thought I did not really like yellow flowers. Then I had a bride ask me to design her whole wedding with only yellow blossoms. I remember that wedding so clearly. When the flower shipment arrived it was like opening boxes of sunshine. I have always felt completely different about the color yellow since that day. In fact I love, love, love yellow. What bride doesn’t want sunshine on her wedding day. The color yellow is the perfect flower to use on such a happy day.
When several different shades of yellow are placed together it creates a remarkable color combination. From pale butter cream yellow to bright bold yellow you will be thrilled with this color combination. Yellow is bright, bold, happy, fun, clean, unique, and even contemporary.
I loved these centerpieces that were created of all yellow as well. We used Oncidium Orchids flying out of the top of the design and in the base of the vase.
We also introduced lemons into some of the designs which gave us one more element that was bright yellow.
There are endless choices when it comes to yellow flowers, you can have Snapdragons, several different varieties of Orchids, Lilly, Calla Lilly, Roses, Chrysanthemums, Freesia, Solidago, Craspedia, Gerber’s, Gladiolas, Tulips, Ranunculus and stock.
Consider also yellow blossoms combined with blue, pink, orange, red ,white and cream and also chartreuse green. Yellow and Chartreuse green together is a wonderful combination the bright popping green does not dilute the intensity of yellow but accentuates its beauty. I hope by writing this more girls will give yellow a chance. If you do, you can be one of the few brides who is clever enough to use yellow and assure yourself some sunshine on your wedding day.
