DIY Invitation Kits: A fun and simple project for you and your fiance to do together!

When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we decided to go the DIY (do it yourself) route for one main item on our list — our wedding invitations! In the beginning stages of our planning, we visited a few invitation vendors and, since we were planning a destination wedding, decided to take this task into our own hands!

I do have to admit, the thought of making our own wedding invitations stressed me out. I felt overwhelmed and anxious at the situation. What if this project does not work out the way I envision? What if the invitations look DIY?

After much consideration, my husband and I made a trip to Office Depot and picked up wedding invitation kits, complete with response cards and envelops. We chose a basic off-white color with a raised, textured edge. I researched on-line wedding invitation wording and put my own spin on the invite. I also chose an elegant font in gray instead of black. The gray print was not as harsh as black and appeared almost silver against the white invitation paper resulting in a classier look and feel. The kit came with detailed instructions on margin settings along with printer settings, which were easy to follow and worked out wonderfully! My husband and I printed 200 invites using our home computer and printer.

Tip: Want to add a personal touch to your DIY invites? We did! By choosing a ribbon in our wedding color, turquoise, and tying the invite together with the response card and envelope, we added a touch of elegance, class and a beautiful addition to our invites!

Putting the invitations together was a fun process! We reserved a Friday night just for the occasion. With the fireplace lit, two glasses of champagne, and a Netflix movie, we set out our materials, sat on the floor, and stuffed and stamped away! That night was so much fun and one I remember well. I believe it was a wonderful experience to share with my soon-to-be husband as we put together our invites for people to share in our big day!

I totally agree that doing invitations yourself can be fun, and they are so much more personal. I also saved a lot of money doing them myself. I used silver, black, and crimson metallic papers for my son’s Bar Mitzvah Invitations. There is a huge selection of beautiful papers available. My invitations came out great, and best of all they fit my image of what I wanted, something I couldn’t find anywhere!

Another great personal touch at a wedding or any large event are photos on chocolate. They make great favors, and I guarantee your friends and relatives will just eat them up!
