Wedding Makeup: A Clean And Natural Look

Wedding makeup can be intimidating if you are not a makeup wearer. It is very important to choose a look that makes you feel comfortable and like yourself- just a bit dressier! If you choose to hire an artist (highly recommended even if you are going for a natural look), be sure to do some research on looks before your makeup trial. I always suggest for my brides to tear sheets from magazines of looks they like. This gives me a general idea of their style and the look they would like to achieve.
If your style day to night is simple, going for a clean and natural look may be your best route. The photos displayed in this post is from a photo shoot I did for Tigerlilly Jewelry. The look focused on the elegant bridal jewelry so the makeup had to be soft.
Emphasis was on the skin with soft definition around the eyes. With the focus on beautiful skin, I made sure not to use a full coverage foundation so the skin’s natural luminosity could show through. I chose a sheer liquid foundation, applied with a foundation brush for a ultra-smooth finish, and set with a small amount of translucent powder. The eyebrows were lightly filled in with a brow shade one step lighter than her natural color then brushed into place. I placed soft brown shades of eyeshadow on her lid and gently blended outward. To finish the eyes, a tight line of liquid eyeliner was placed along the lash line and a volumizing mascara was used along the top and bottom lashes. Cream blush in a soft coral color was applied to the apples of her cheeks using a foundation brush and the lips were gently painted with a peach gloss.
This simple look is gorgeous for either a daytime or evening wedding and, most importantly, photographs beautifully!
Cheers!

Victoria, thanks for the great article! The natural look can be hard to achieve if you try too hard; you’ve explained it so well.
