The excitement is here, you are telling everyone about how the love of your life proposed! You are on a cloud and nothing can bring you down…this is where you should be! You are one step closer to being The bride in your dream wedding. A piece of advice I will offer all newly engaged ladies, don’t forget about the man you are going to marry and spend the rest of your life with while planning. It is very easy to become overwhelmed with the planning process, new future in-laws, and decisions decisions decisions…keep in mind, this time is about the two of you.
Helpful tips:
1. Include each other: Take the time to talk to your fiance about what each of you want on your wedding day. Make sure they are a part of planning process and listen to their wants (big, small, meaningful, and ridiculous). Including them and giving them some responsibility with things they enjoys will make planning that much easier. Write things down that are most important to each of you so it doesn’t get forgotten in the process.
2. Talk about finances: are the in-laws contributing, your parents? Are you and your fiance in on it alone? You must have this discussion. BE PREPARED for some tense moments. One way to get through whatever comes your way is to listen and work on not reacting immediately to things that make you uneasy, talk it out between you and your fiance first. Once you have a budget in mind, you can begin to plan your wedding!
3. Prioritize: Put a list together of things that the both of you want to accomplish first. There are some really great wedding planner binders out there that help you get your wedding ideas organized and is a great keepsake to have! I suggest getting the big details completed first (i.e set a date, contact church/synagogue, book appointments for reception hall, find a caterer, find the perfect dress!) –> during my planning process, I felt I needed all the time I could to coordinate all of these together to work on the same day.
4. Have fun: Just remember that this is supposed to be a special time for you and your fiance. No matter what comes your way, you have each other to get you through it. Again, you’re getting married!!!!!!
Congratulations again and I will be back with some great tips on how to find your perfect dress!!!
